Event #1    Art in the Park presented by Empower Art – an emerging nonprofit in Austin dedicated to empowering adolescents through creative expression.

Empower Art hosted a fun-filled day of Art in the Park at Bartholomew Park in North Austin.  There was popcorn, snow cones, a cardboard castle project, tie die, stamp making, card making, face painting, food, a drum circle and MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!  It couldn’t have been a nicer day to have it and it was such a wonderful day meeting new people.

I brought the new t-shirt loom so that everyone could participate!

Busy hands are working fast to get our loom finished!!!

Future jewelry designers made earrings out of plastic grocery bags!!

In honor of Earth Day I decided to lead a project that fuses plastic grocery bags.  Fusing is just a fancy name for melting.  I will post the tutorial ASAP so you can do it at home!!  Here we have some jewelry action happening.

Ta-Da!!! Grocery bag earrings!!

Event # 2 – ACE Innovation presented by ACE Academy – an all ages oriented, public event celebrating Austin’s community of creative entrepreneurs.   It was a day filled with guest speaker presentations and community led hands-on educational exhibits, visitors will find an abundance of opportunities to learn in this interactive environment. A showcase of Austin-area students’ original inventions and enterprises will also be on display, along with an artisan food and craft market, and live entertainment. Something for everyone!

A bunch of table displays - beeswax candles, jewelry, stop motion animation, robotics, and SOOOO much more! Amazing!

Prepping the fusing project!

Excited about my new screen printed Tchotchkes shirt!

Prepping the fusing project supplies.

My friend Jessica of Jessica Sunshine Photography was there and snapped these photos of me – haha!  Thanks Jessica!!

I met soooo many amazing kids that I hope will think about becoming ‘Lil Tchotchkes this summer.  I even bought a sweet corn plant from 3 young entrepreneur boys that started their plant business!! Hopefully you can buy their products at our summer show!

Event #3 – EARTH DAY!!!!  Tchotchkes Clothing and supply swap at El Mercado!

Oh my… this was a day full of fun and lots of hard work!  Check out all of these wallpaper books and fabric sample books that were donated!!  This is just the start of it.  This room was FILLED!!!!!  Clothing, shoes, accessories, etc.  Unfortunately, parking was limited due to an event right around the corner so the next one we do, we will make sure to have ample parking!!!!!  Thanks to EVERYONE who came out and helped volunteer at the event!!! We couldn’t have done it without you!!!!

All these goodies (and more) were donated for the swap!!! oh my.

We had some silly fun too!

A little fun with some donated felt beards!

I have a lot of ideas for some upcoming events, so stay tuned for the next one!!!

Have a great week!

    • Nicola!!!! Yes!! That project is SO easy and a creative way to recycle! It’s taken a bit longer to catch up on things but please visit soon. I plan to have several tutorials up this weekend! I will throw in some more examples of what else you can do with grocery bags. xo!
